59th Poet in Residence Reading

Carolin Würfel

A woman gets a room and writes about Rheinsberg

on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 7:00 p.m.

From March to August 2024, Carolin Würfel (born 1986 in Leipzig) lived and worked as the Poet in Residence of the Kurt Tucholsky Literature Museum in Rheinsberg. During her stay, two texts were written: a diary and an essay in which she reflects on how a woman writer can find her space in the male-dominated Rheinsberg. She will present passages from the two texts, which will be published in the "Rheinsberger Bogen", for the first time on October 9th.

After studying history and journalism in Berlin and Istanbul, Carolin Würfel worked as a freelance journalist. Her first book, "Ingrid Wiener and the Art of Liberation", was published in 2019. This was followed in 2023 by the book "Three Women Dreamed of Socialism", in which she interviews her predecessors in the GDR when they were young themselves: Christa Wolf, Brigitte Reimann and Maxie Wander. She is currently working on her first novel.

Alfred Wegener Museum

Since 2009 the Alfred Wegener Museum in Zechlinerhütte belongs to our department.
As a child Alfred Wegener (1880-1930) spent his vacations there. He was a "Viking of science" who wanted to discover the secrets of nature with his own observations. He founded the theory of plate tectonics and undertook four trips to the polar region. He died during his great Greenland expedition in 1930.
The museum presents the life of the researcher and raises awareness of questions about climate change.

We stand with Israel

Kurt Tucholsky was of Jewish descent. The museum has been working on Jewish topics for over 30 years, has researched and documented the life of Tucholsky's friend Else Weil, who was murdered in Auschwitz, has been working with the Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich Studienwerk for years, initiated the laying of stumbling blocks in Rheinsberg and much more – a clear commitment to the right to exist of Jews and the State of Israel is important to us as part of our own cultural identity.
